It is finally here! The Grand Opening of University Pickers Antique Store was last Saturday and this is a few pictures of our booth! My friend Dawn and I have a business called She Sells Details and we do lots of crafty things for the home and for children. Our friend Allison at Vintage Charm and Restoration (the fabulous painted furniture you see pictured here) asked us to join her in her booth and accessorize! We have had so much fun and there are so many talented vendors there! The owners are the sweetest couple...stop by if you are in the Huntsville area!

<span style="font-family: "Courier New", Courier, monospace;">I have had this little table and chair set for quite some time....Rylie is 6 and Cohen is 2. Needless to say, I bought it before we had our son, so it is still pink. I hope to get around to painting it soon with my fabulous chalk paint;) In the meantime, the metal chairs were not always the comfy-est, so my wee-ones resorted to plucking the decorative throw pillows off my living room furniture and sitting on them at breakfast. To save the pillows from syrup and milk stains, I raided my craft closet and found that I had just enough fabric left from my little man's curtains to create the chevron cushions and used scraps for the bird and fox.....by the way, this chevron fabric can be found at Hobby Lobby and I am loving it in every color!

This one is for my little man....I will have to get around to painting the chairs something other than pink, but for now he hasn't noticed....

Her cushion.....A sweet little bird on a limb. I kind of cut off part of the picture...I used 4 different ribbons as the chair ties. I am not a seamstress, so if I can do this YOU can! Just sketch your shapes out and cut around them...wing it! It is not supposed to be perfect:) Copy these if you want! Pin your pieces on or use the iron on stuff sold by the yard at HL to hold in place as you sew. Measure your seat and add about an inch on each side when you cut your squares for the cushions....."Sew" easy! Have a great day! I am off to wrap gifts....

We decided on a bug theme for Cohen's 2nd birthday. It was a really fun party and easy to plan! This is a shot of the sugar cookies that have become a family tradition at birthdays around here:) They always match the theme....I have accumulated quite a few cookie cutters over the years, so in between parties they are often used by the kiddos to make "cookies" out of playdough! These are grasshoppers...

Speaking of the Master...this is an updated pic. I got this good ol' brass chandelier for free (holla!) and I painted it with several shades of off white and ecru. I picked up the greenery 1/2 off at Hobby Lobby and voila! A new light fixture for literally a couple of dollars! The mirror by our bed was a hand me down that I painted and then I added an old book (I tore the hard cover off because I liked the way it looked) and added a printed burlap covered vase with a few flowers ( $2 for the vase at HL, $2 for the flowers at Walmart). Ahhh...design on a dime:)

Happy Valentines Day! If you are a Pinterest junkie like me, then you may have seen a version of this cutie floating around, only it had a small white pumpkin where I have a nest and a beaded red heart. I also added the mini bunting, because I love buntings! Here is what you will need to make this:

-One medium sized grapevine wreath (about $4.00 at Hobby Lobby, but these go 1/2 off all the time)
-One bag of Spanish moss (I liked the bright green for this project, also purchased at 50% off)
-One birds nest (they come in a pack of 2 at HL, so you will have more for another spring project:)
-One beaded red heart ornament (30% off in Valentine section)
-red ric rac (.99 in scrapbook section, also 50% off...ok you get the picture....I like 50% off)
-scrap red and white polka dot fabric
-old book page
-burlap
-hot glue and gun

Just take your wreath and work in small sections, applying the hot glue and then adding a bunch of the Spanish moss. Don't be stingy with the moss....it goes a long way. Also, this will make an EPIC mess, so be forewarned:) After covering most of the front with moss ( I skipped the back) hot glue your nest to the inside bottom of the wreath, or secure it with floral wire. Then I hot glued the ornament inside the nest. Almost done! Take your book page (mine is in German, so I am not even sure what it says!) and your burlap and your red and white fabric and cut little flags, all the same size. You will then break out the sewing machine and stitch the little flags to your ric-rac, making a cute little tiny mini bunting! If you don't have a machine, you can always hot glue. Attach this to your wreath and hang it for all to see:) You can tie ribbon or burlap around the top if you like, to hang it with. I just used what I had. Tip: If you have a spray topcoat lying around, go over the wreath a couple of times. This will help with shedding. It is fine without too. You may just have to pick up the occasional moss:)

Thanks for viewing my blog. It is just a little creative outlet for this stay at home mom. After last week's sermon at LG, I just wanted to make sure I had the right motivation for doing things....I hope I don't sound like I am bragging on this blog. The only reason I have an ounce of creativity is because that is the way the Father created me and I just want to share ideas with you sweet friends:) And with that I wish you a Happy Valentines Day and a verse that was on my heart today. Thank you Jesus for loving us:)

I made a few things in December, so here are some pics:)
This is a little Christmas outfit for Rylie. I almost hesitate to make holiday specific outfits (although I almost always cave and do it anyway) because of the scarcity of their shelf life. I mean, she may have gotten 4 wears out of this at best. Nevertheless, it is fun to do and my dear friend Dawn came up with this super cute and easy skirt pattern, so I grabbed some cute fabrics and stiched away!

These are a few window displays I did for a local children's store. I decopaged the letters and hung them with ribbons from frames that I painted and distressed. I had ornaments and lights and lots of other fun stuff too!

This is a chalkboard I got at a thrift store and painted. I used my trusty hot glue gun and glued on moss, ribbon and ornaments and wrote this quote that I just love. Now if I could just work on my handwriting....

And lastly, my little mini-me modeling her 5th birthday outfit. I make the kids one for each birthday, and I must say it feels good that they can actually get a year's wear out of it! Rylie chose the kitty cat theme for this year's party, so she wanted an outfit to match. And yes, it is January and her birthday was in November! Thus the post title... :)

We had a limited budget so we had to get creative! Our super talented friend Theresa did the catering and my Aunt Kristie made the cake herself! My mom adn I actually bought all the flowers and I made the arrangements and bouquets the morning of the wedding! Holy Time Crunch Batman! I made the little moss "S" and it hung behind the cake table and Cyndi loves purple, so we added splashes here and there. Lots of lights, candles, greenery and lanterns and voila! I also made the framed initials with my trusty cricut machine and printed song lyrics from one of their favorite songs as the backdrop. This makes a great gift/memento! We also decorated the windows and the front of the sanctuary with candles and greenery that I cut from the woods beside my parents home! Simple elegance:) P.S. 9:00 am the day aftet the wedding I became VIOLENTLY ill with a stomach bug....thank you, God, for not letting this happen the day of the wedding:)

We had about 20 tables, so fortunately I had some talented volunteers to come and help with the setup. My friend Amanda was in charge of the Benefit and she recruited me for the decor. I met with a local florist and chose flowers for the arrangements, then re purposed lots of brass candlesticks with paint, distressing and a bit of glaze to make them look aged. I painted some old shutters for jewelry display for the Aggie's Arts segment of their ministry. (If you are interested in purchasing some of the handmade jewelry or handbags, contact me. All proceeds go towards helping women in the slums of Kampala and also go towards Kisoro kids, a school there in Uganda for the children). I used lots of candles, greenery and moss with lanterns. Amanda made the frames, with pictures of locals in Kampala, and we placed those on each table. I painted a few pieces for the welcome station, and also for the buffet to hold plates, etc. Lots of fun for a great cause!

<img style="display:block; I think it lends character to the project **wink** wink** :)

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjwsTRkL_qZ1getexE8ZsE_xGG_MD4EuFSfZRWvL86sGuwbL-8GUYrh6wrP6hs2BDJzgz7Q_nKvLwM4XAxEJblUvJTjEaGNGtCjEAec9esVhraYiNOs-_7dHzJmb0kYxveEzmO34x8aKMg/s400/2011+Halloween%252C+Uganda+Fundraiser%252C+Stephanie%2527s+shower+062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672298634192258290" />
Start by pinning the first strip on to your muslin square. Begin at the bottom and work your way up to avoid a major headache. (I started with the fabric) and folding/pining as you go to create the ruffles. I forgot to take a pic of the pining process, but here is a pic of some of the ruffles already sewn onto the muslin. Pretty straightforward....just sew the pieces straight on, alternating as you go. It would be pretty with lots of different prints as well, very Anthro.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEix7RIrcoUwU1DhdA2z7w6wbl4E0IO8JGEc0-mQfaaHkDOryvRJzPY1S5PuiFShgrJwnwDogD0D0PCWC6gGwZYmOlUwU_fSF7peVQIDT_Ur6vKWbl3jYtELvcblAUxUIdj3BJbd1VmQXwo/s400/2011+Halloween%252C+Uganda+Fundraiser%252C+Stephanie%2527s+shower+060.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672298619586493250" />
A closer shot of the ruffles as they are sewn. Hey, don't judge, I am no seamstress:) If I can do this you can do this! As you can see you will need to trim later. If you want to add some stop-fray to the edges or even dilute a little Elmer's glue and apply lightly to the edges, this will prevent fraying as well.

Keep stitching until all ruffles are in place. Take your piece of Burlap that you cut to fit and sew to the ruffled side of the pillow. Sew around 3 sides and then turn inside out. I know you would normally just leave a little hole to turn it right side out, but believe me, this is bulky and you will save yourself a meltdown by doing it this way. After it is right side out, place your pillow form inside and hand stitch it closed! Isn't it lovely? You should be proud!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjWrfoaXy6hVS1dj0vgIGsWwsm_SGmNuaoz-oQ6rwV2DowOAIQzpM5wkeoBEJRsny9jFtxHPaIhLm0t1ZjHQdNUncD5S6mk0tQ7h3iXV9KolE-lZ9Oq8uVwzMrajU5irz1XaAfFXHiAeyM/s400/DSC_0268.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5672298612742504818" />
Finished pillow....thanks for viewing!

~EmilyEmilyFoxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07939944636893424957noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5058296255918655650.post-10191586247031547122011-10-27T09:48:00.001-07:002012-01-10T16:35:28.942-08:00Country Living Fair, Stone Mountain GAWhen my dear husband asked me what I wanted for my birthday this year, my immediate response was "tickets to the Country Living Fair in Atlanta!". I wanted to go last year, but with a 5 month old it wasn't really feasible for us. Was it everything I had hoped? Oh...I will let you be the judge. Feast your eyes, fellow crafters, DIY-ers and flea market junkies! It is like the mother ship! HAHA! I loved it and will be back next year. Pretty sure my man gets husband of the year for taking me.

<img style="display:block; I regret that I don't have the before pics of her teal and purple walls with pink, purple and white over sized polka dots (it was cute for a 5 year old!)Hopefully you can still appreciate the dramatic transformation!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdweDdypPEsTMhNEl0jwiq5xkdmzZdRBTVzHihR6vRn4R1cHxg5SWgLkBCtQOQDuyfaEonxB9jM0dIeDdDRcQWZUXepaarVGlmaXW_ejU9U_cPFkrqX42SegsodnWO-ToaiNOrkVfoNwg/s400/2011-10-Soccer%252C+Bre%2527s+room+makeover+062.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5665238360285754402" />

She picked this bedspread,so we used it to inspire the rest of the room. I had one wall painted "Kimono Purple" by Sherwin Williams, two walls in a Steely Gray, and one was a cream color that I can't remember off the top of my head. I free handed zebra stripes with black paint on one wall...(note to self...NEVER agree to do that again...took forever!!) I took my sister accessory shopping, and we got a rug, trash can and various wall art to add to the mix. I had a side table in my garage that a friend of mine was getting rid of, and the purple lamp I discovered at a thrift store.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhKNe2PAoDFyeTMnZOSYBZYHcGbzddNqcJqMu6CPqPlJnRw7rNyIljMAlmmloOUTg-fD_AHCK1l-z4XH8tMd3ofxsHYxcsZhyphenhyphenL2etLlg6Tfx4HHTkeA-DlM6zOOKT2Lk7hBtfI5TZRh2Rk/s400/2011-10-Soccer%252C+Bre%2527s+room+makeover+067.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5665238350667009570" />

This photo collage frame reminded me of something from Anthro, so we got it and went by Hobby Lobby and found some cool scrapbook papers to create instant customized wall art. We will also do draperies, but hand-painting that zebra wall took me most of the day, so I ran out of time before we could get to those. I mixed some glitter into the black paint to give the stripes a little kick, and even put zebra scrapbook paper on the back of her pet snake Liz's aquarium. We rounded up all those loose bath and body works items with a cute purple tray and rounded out the room with a full length mirror, a must for all teen girls, of course. Too bad I didn't get her life sized "Jacob Black" cut-out in the pic, for all you Twilight fans!! I got these canvases and letters from Hobby Lobby and bought some acrylics in colors to match the crib bedding...easy-peasy! Just pic a few images from the quilt or bumper and paint away. I free-handed these, but if you aren't artsy, just hold up to the light and trace as best as you can. Color the back side of the paper where you traced the image with chalk, then place your paper onto the canvas and trace the image again. Instant transfer! Or, you can find your bedding online and print and enlarge the pic. Easy DIY art for your sweet baby!
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgzTFrL9rrMZiWWslPcG4c32984_dtdarP0wTCooeDgIrWl2DqLEctFQ38J9eERXbPB6f37S_6Creoa5ozNlmgvqrw9STB2JFAIbtKieHX4PpcSQ8a5ehfa1SLD9pfkqdCJmzxlN3JHr3w/s400/2010-3-31+Em+7+months+preg%252C+70%2527s+party%252C+petting+zoo+152.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649271609651148834" />

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihzT-l6mYjqddkBaflLi0z9iuBulcEUCbtk9hkfEjcV-bzcYdcNWt_JvPd435VuBPx_fRkHE1UAxFGhOBdykSfpOuwFjQa-iHKOxVXGuS26JbKfahyphenhyphenssE5-M86e8te-efti95eKa2vWSI/s400/2011-8+House+pics+039.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5649271607321056674" />
You don't have to spend a ton for a cute display....I got the shelf on clearance at Marshall's, then added a frame and the tiny cowboy hat that I already had. OH-SO-SIMPLE!!! I started with an 18" wide strip of unbleached muslin, cut it the length of my window and cut 3 strips of burlap (about 8-10 inches wide and prob twice as long as the window) and pinned them into ruffles and sewed with my machine. Don't forget to hem your edges first, or they will unravel. I had pieces of burlap to make up each row of ruffles...not one continuous piece. It would have been easier to do long strips but less cost effective on the yardage. (Hope that made sense!!) Anyway, I made loops out of some leftover fabric, added trim to the top and hung them from knobs that I got at Hobby Lobby for 1/2 off. Love it!

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 266px; height: 400px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhwSHYUGBPrAA5OsQmh7mXzZPzT3Xqz9Jdio_mOJtqZ3K7mrLgoXlA8SBUAQebqNev_V-iuYIybu4YYP-lYUYFjlQQS_n1Z_yBK3sKsiR3NMZr4P6WwPZIhs25JrQGvArk9T79pGRWo1s/s400/2011-8+House+pics+029.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5646773251200031042" />
Another view of our breakfast nook....The table came from Craig's list and the chairs *free*!
So here it is in all its glory!! I finally finished my shutter headboard. After going "junkin" the other day, I found the two missing shutters I needed and painted them up! I started with a purplish black, then layered Hosta (one of my favorite colors!), a cool gray, and a creamy white. (Sorry, I don't know the colors off hand, but I can research and tell you...mostly BM paints.)They look really old and rustic now! I have an old chandelier that I have painted, but it is still living in the garage until my dear hubby has time to install:)
Here is a sneak peek at the rest...I have a LOT of accessorizing left to do and I want to repaint the walls! This is a dresser that I scored for $40 and repainted to look like barn wood.

So I have been doing lots of small furniture and accessories lately....I have really gotten into the "junkin" thing. I love the thrill of taking old things and making them look cool again. I have done this every since my first apartment in good old Auburn, Al (War Eagle) when I was broke as a joke and decided to paint some furniture and make some slipcovers for some heinous furniture that well-meaning and sweet donors gave us (probably breathing a sigh of relief that someone else was left to deal with the ugliness). Anyway, for those of you that know me, you know I like to repurpose and create and decorate! Design is my passion! So if you have any old pieces, no matter how ugly....send me a pic and I can give suggestions or better yet, I will give it a facelift for you!

I will post more pics soon!!
Love ya!
More to come....I promise they are more subtle in person. The photos kind of make them look wild and bright blue. So fun and pretty! My BFF Dawn's little sis got married at a quaint historic home and had the ceremony on the back lawn...such a great day and a great couple! Dawn and I made all the decorations, flowers, etc. I must say, Dawn put in quite a few more hours of labor than I, but we pulled it off! We even made ALL the floral arrangements, bouquets, etc. Somehow, in all the haste of preparations, I failed to get any pics of those! I will have to get some from Dawn and post...stay tuned!EmilyFoxhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07939944636893424957noreply@blogger.com0
